Sport Activites and Courses
GL1 offers a wide range of sporting activities. Many of these are free as part of the Active Life Membership. For more information about the sporting activities available at GL1, click here.

New Courses on Active Life Programme:
Touch Tennis
Thursday 4.00pm-5.00pm
Touch Tennis/Mini Tennis has now moved to Thursday from 4-5pm. It follows the same basic rules as mini tennis red with small rackets/sponge/low compression balls and smaller courts. Great for introducing movement and co-ordination skills. 3 tasters a week available.
Arrows
Mondays 5.00pm-6.00pm, ages 5-8 years.
This mini version of archery using the latest adapted kit is great fun, using mini games to improve technique and will allow a pathway to progress to the full archery programme on Wednesdays at 5.30pm in the bowls hall.
Cycle Programme
Saturday 9.30am – 10.30am, ages 5-9 years at Bishops College adjacent to Oxstalls Sports Park.
Following the success of the Balanceability courses using balance bikes, we are launching our new Cycle programme for those either starting to learn to cycle using their bike or those who are new to cycling, but wish to improve their skill and technique. Ideal for those moving from balance bikes to pedal bikes.
General Gymnastics
Thursday’s 4.00pm-5.00pm, ages 4-9 years.
Children will develop co-ordination, strength and flexibility in their gymnastic skills. Great for beginners and there will be an opportunity to work towards badges and certificates, through the British Gymnastic award scheme.
Toddler World
For children aged 5 years and younger, Toddler World sessions run every week in the Sports Hall with a bouncy castle, soft play shapes, trikes, balls, toys and more.

Pre-school Courses:
Balanceability (Learn to Cycle)
Mondays 4.15pm - 5.00pm, ages 2½ - 8 years. There are 3 tasters per week on both the Thursday programmes.
Supported by Olympians Chris Boardman and Laura Trott, Balanceability combines unique balance bikes with brakes and no pedals for children aged 2½ - 6 years. Call 01452 396 666 to book. From Saturday 13th September 2014 we will be starting Aspire Learn to Cycle Programme, which will see progression to a bike using fun games and activities, ages 5 upwards.
World Football
Thursdays, 10.00am - 10.45am, ages 2½ years - 5 years
A football based fundamental movement class for pre-school children. Using smaller balls on a smaller pitch, children will improve their skills in a fun environment.
Rugby Tykes
Wednesdays, 3.15 - 4.00pm, ages 2 years - 4 years
Wednesdays, 4.15 - 5.00pm, ages 4 years - 6 years
Multi Sports Madness Sessions
Saturday 10.00am-12.00pm
Ages 5-12 years
Free for Active Life members, £3.85 non members
These sessions may include sports such as Futsal, handball, badminton, mini tennis, Mini Olympics and physical activity games and will be led by Community sports leaders who have experience of running holiday clubs etc.
Zumba Kids
Sessions run every Friday in the Health and Fitness Studio
Zumba Kids Junior (4-7 years) 4.15pm – 5.00pm
Mixed Zumba Kids (7-12 years) and any 6 year olds plus from Zumba Kids Junior, 5.00-6.00pm
